The Controller serves as a senior accounting leader responsible for managing the organization's financial operations with precision and strategic oversight. This role ensures accuracy in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and budgeting, while continuously improving accounting systems and processes. The Controller oversees essential functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance, and is instrumental in developing financial policies that support sustainable growth and long-term fiscal integrity. Partnering with senior executives, auditors, and tax advisors, the Controller leads audit preparation, navigates complex tax compliance issues, and provides forward-thinking financial guidance to inform executive decisions. Supervising a team of 3–4 accounting professionals, the Controller cultivates a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional development. Experience within insurance pool or shared-risk accounting environments is preferred but not required.
What We’re Looking For:
Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams (3–4 direct reports)
Expertise in key functions: AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
Strong ability to foster collaboration, accountability, and staff development
Demonstrated success in streamlining accounting processes and controls
Familiarity with insurance pool or shared-risk accounting environments (preferred, not required)
Strategic thinker with hands-on operational experience and financial acumen
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries; ensure timely and accurate financial statement generation.
Manage comprehensive month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and adjusting entries.
Oversee general ledger activity to maintain accurate and compliant financial records.
Analyze and interpret financial statement variances across Month-to-Date (MTD), Quarter-to-Date (QTD), and Year-to-Date (YTD) metrics.
Audit & Compliance
Coordinate annual audit activities and documentation with external auditors.
Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal control standards.
Budgeting & Strategic Planning
Partner with departmental leaders to develop annual budgets and update rolling forecasts.
Monitor budget performance and recommend cost-efficiency initiatives.
Leadership & Team Supervision
Direct Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
Coach and supervise accounting personnel; foster professional development and cross-functional support.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Liaise with internal stakeholders and vendors to facilitate accurate financial data collection.
Provide timely financial insights and respond to senior management inquiries.
